A breast lift is a surgical procedure that elevates the position of the breast
on the chest. Breasts can sag for a number of reasons, including pregnancy,
breast feeding, gravity, aging, and weight loss. Saggy breasts can affect a
woman's image and self esteem. A mastopexy can correct this problem. The
procedure usually takes about 90 minutes, and there is little if any pain in
the post op period.
Commonly asked questions:
Am I a good candidate for this procedure?
Where are the incisions?
How will I look?
Can a breast augmentation be done at the same time?
Where is the surgery performed?
What type of anesthesia is used?
What are the risks?
What can I return to normal activity?
If your breasts are sagging, and have lost firmness, a breast lift can correct
this. Also, if your areolas have spread, their diameter can be reduced with a
breast lift.
I customize the mastopexy to the individual patient, in order to minimize scarring.
The incisions are usually only around the areola. For larger breasts, it may be
necessary to make another incision from the base of the areola to the bottom of the
breast. Rarely, an anchor scar type pattern is needed.
You will look more youthful, and sexier. Your breasts will be higher, rounder, and firmer.
YES! If a woman wants fullness in the upper part of the breast, and an increase in her
breast size, an implant will be needed. It is placed through the same incision as the lift.
The surgery can be done in a certified office setting, an outpatient surgery center, or a
hospital. Most patients prefer the cleanliness and privacy of the office setting.
Local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. General anesthesia is not needed. There is no
discomfort or awareness during the procedure.
Mastopexy procedures are very safe. Some possible risks include infection, bleeding scarring,
wound separation, loss of nipple-areolar sensation. areolar spreading, and in some extremely
rare cases, loss of nipple tissue.
Very soon. There is minimal pain post operatively. My patients are walking the night of surgery,
and can return to work in 2 days.
