Breast Augmentation

Photo Gallery

Breast augmentation is a safe surgical procedure that enhances the size and shape of a woman's breast. It is one of most common procedures that I perform. I have developed a technique that dramatically reduces, and in some cases eliminates, post operative pain.

Women who have undergone a breast augmentation benefit from a significant improvement in their self image. They feel more confident, more attractive, and are much happier with the way they feel about themselves.

Am I a good candidate for breast augmentation? Back to top

If you want your breasts larger, rounder, fuller, and or firmer then you are a good candidate for breast augmentation. Breast augmentation can also correct differences in size and shape if they are not even, as well as correct mild sagging.

Are there different types of implants? Back to top

Yes, there are different types of implants. Most women prefer saline (salt water) filled implants. Sometimes silicone filled implants will be a better choice for some patients. Both types of implants come in a variety of sizes and shapes. We are experts in helping our patients choose the implants that are right for them.

What are the risks of surgery? Back to top

Breast augmentation surgery is quite safe. As with any surgical procedure, there are risks. These include infection, bleeding, hardness (also called capsular contracture), rippling, and leakage. These risks will be thoroughly discussed at the time of your consultation.

Dr. Palmer has preformed thousands of breast augmentations safely. He and his patients enjoy the safety and experience he and his staff provide.

Where will my surgery be performed? Back to top

Most of our patients prefer to have their surgery performed in our fully certified office surgical facility. Some patients prefer to have their surgery in the hospital or outpatient surgery center. We can easily accommodate these requests.

When can I return to my usual activities? Back to top

You should be able to return to work within 4-5 days. This depends on the level of activity that your job requires.

Patients can usually begin light exercise 7-10 days after surgery.

What type of anesthesia is used? Back to top

Dr. Palmer performs virtually all of his office surgery under an IV sedation anesthetic administered buy a certified anesthesia provider.

Due to his expertise in pain control, his patients do not need general anesthesia. There is no pain, discomfort, or awareness during surgery.

What does my surgery involve? Back to top

The method of inserting and positioning your implant will depend on your anatomy, your preference, and Dr. Palmer’s recommendations.

The incision can be made either in the crease where the breast meets the chest, or in the areola. Every effort will be made to assure that the incision is placed so resulting scars will be as inconspicuous as possible.

Working through the small incision a pocket is created behind the muscle where the implant is placed. The incision is then closed with dissolving sutures. The entire procedure takes about an hour.

How will I look? Back to top

For many women, the result of breast augmentation can be satisfying, even exhilarating, as they learn to appreciate their fuller appearance. They become more confident, more attractive, and feel more in control, and better about themselves.

Regular examination by your plastic surgeon and routine mammograms for those in the appropriate age groups at prescribed intervals will help assure that any complications, if they occur, can be detected early and treated.

Your decision to have breast augmentation is a highly personal one that not everyone will understand. The important thing is how you feel about it. If you've met your goals, then your surgery is a success.
